NEW! Top-Rope Practice Day is for those who have taken our Intro to Top-Rope course or higher (or equivalent elsewhere) and want to get some additional practice with direct supervision and feedback from a certified instructor.
Prerequisites:
You have taken any GBCS Intro to Top Rope, Advanced Top Rope, private course or instruction or equivalent instruction elsewhere that has reviewed the following:
Stewardship / Leave No Trace
Route Finding
Equipment Selection
Essential Knots
Belay techniques, devices and Communication
Top Rope Anchor Configurations
Tethering with static rope and/or personal anchor system
Descending from the anchor
We will begin with students setting up and/or watching an instructor set up a top rope climb followed by a quick top belay test and climbing session. From there students will be free to climb, belay and set up appropriate climbs with the most common top rope setups from bolted anchors with supervision of an instructor. Original topics may be reviewed and additional topics may be covered, however our main focus is to solidify skills needed to top rope independently from bolted anchors. We want to make sure you are working with a solid foundation of skills!
This course is typically held at Den Rock in Lawrence, Quincy Quarries or Red Rocks, Gloucester. Course times are generally 8AM-4PM. 6:1 Max Student to Instructor Ratio. 3 students required for the course to run. All necessary equipment is included.
All courses are also available as private full day bookings starting at $450 for 1-2 people.
