5 Summer Tips for Climbing in Massachusetts
I had a fellow climber tell me last week, early June, that “the (climbing) season is basically over”. I could not disagree more!
While he was right that prime send conditions on his projects are not likely to happen in the next month or so… But there are so many other things that can be great about climbing in Massachusetts the summer!

Longer Days - Avoiding the heat of mid day, chasing the shade and climbing early or late in the day are great ways to structure your summer climbing days. Now that the days are long, those post work half day sessions can happen!
Skills, Volume and Exploratory Days vs. Project Days - If you are a hard climbing crusher, it can be a good time to expand your scope time of the season.
Hot / Cold Combo - There’s nothing like finishing a hot day on the rock with a cool dip in a nearby stream, waterfall, creek or even a swim in the ocean! Our top spots for this are Red Rocks - Gloucester, MA, Chapel Ledge - Ashfield, MA, or Crow Hill - Princeton, MA. Bring a towel!
Weekday, vacation, post work and family days - it’s summer! Take that day off and get out there with your crew!
Cold Drinks at the Car - A cold drink at the car hits different in the summer! Hauling around the ice chest in the summer is 10/10 worth it when you crack a cold one in the parking lot after getting after it!
